When you begin to operate from excitement as your inner GPS to guide you, the next major discernment to develop is when the excitement points you to have that burger, or to go to the gym instead, or to do neither of those and stay present to the discomfort of doing nothing. How do you know when to listen to which desire?

This is a foundational article to help you identify which type of excitement you’re prompted to operate from – the Lack-Excitement or the Wholeness-Excitement.
As a guide for other people to their own excitement, I do not have a sense what is actually the true excitement for you so instead I share this resource to help you uncover the real source of your own motivation, and what makes you move.
Sometimes I hear “Does it even matter which type of excitement it is?“, and the answer to that is a definite yes.
The Lack-Excitement will only bring more opportunities to experience lack, prolonging the loop you’ve probably tried to escape for some time now.
The Wholeness-Excitement is the true soul desire pointing you in a direction of unexpected pleasant surprise, or simply the pleasure of the experience – which will only further expand and create even more opportunities for the wholeness you already feel to express in the world.
Here’s a detailed breakdown to help you differentiate and discern the two.

How to apply this distinction
So how do you know when it’s time for a burger, a gym session or do nothing and stay with the discomfort instead?
It just so happens that all of the above activities can be motivated by both types of desire.
- Burger – could be celebration and soothing for the inner child, or attempt to escape discomfort and feel “better” in the body
- Gym – could be a healthy form of a habit or could be addiction to distract from other pressures that want to be seen.
- Doing nothing – many times judged as procrastination, laziness, and avoiding progress as a form of sabotage, and it could be that… or it could be the most effective way to be with discomfort, dive into the feelings and sensations in the body and rewrite the internal Lenscode that has been generating the experience of lack, limitation, and separation in the first place.
Majority of High Performance 1.0 world is focusing on forcing action, ignoring fear, developing the habit of discipline and consistency.
There’s a time and place for it, of course. Especially at the first stages of scrambling out of the victim consciousness.
When you have overdeveloped your ability to stay consistent that you got so good at suppressing and ignoring your other parts and inner children who have been calling out for your attention, they begin to revolt and throw tantrums in the form of self-sabotage.
Importance of the integration phase
In either case, whether you haven’t been able to get yourself to move for a long time, or instead you just couldn’t let yourself slow down – the intermediate phase to assist you returning to balance is to swing the pendulum hard on the opposite side.
For the lazy person to force action initially beyond natural form.
For the over-disciplined to force rest to the point of learning to be with the painful discomfort.
For both, learning to allow the indulgence in cheat meals and other pleasures that have been used as pacifiers while dissolving any form of guilt, shame or wrong-ness that arises.
Because until you’re able to be fully with action and non-action equally, the discernment will be skewed towards avoiding the uncomfortable.
The Implication of Human Design on Clarity of Excitement
Now we come to the point of connecting with your true signal from which you’ll be able to better discern whether excitement is coming from conditioned mental programming and rules that you “should” do and want certain things, or if it’s coming from your authentic true desire.
I won’t go into the full system of Human Design but just know that depending on whether you’re a Manifestor, Sacral Generator, Emotional Generator, different types of Projector or Reflector – your mode of hearing your excitement will be different.
For some it’s a very loud in the moment signal from the body, for others a very subtle nudge, for others you may need to allow your emotional chemistry in the body to settle before you can hear your true desire with clarity, and yet others may just need to speak out your thinking process and allow the higher intelligence of your body to receive your spoken words back as reflected from either other people or your immediate surroundings.
The cool part is that no matter what your human design type is, the clarity of your excitement is in this very moment.
So if you ever think about what you’d like to do for the next 5 or 10 years, know that it is the conditioned mind looking for safety in some kind of future clarity and certainty – and that is just not where safety is found.
So… what is your next highest excitement in this very moment after finishing this article, and which type is it – coming from Lack with a want to get and “attract”, or from Wholeness with a pure desire to create, express and experience?
Mastering to distinguish clearly which is which is the very thing to help you walk the exact path you’re being guided on by the higher intelligence of your system rather than the learned conditioned rules of your mind.
And if no clear desire and excitement is coming up, then it’s not “lack of excitement” but “what I’m really excited to do now is to do nothing” – and that pure presence in the present moment is actually the highest form of creation… guiding you to allow and receive the next amazing gift you’ve specifically hid from yourself, just so you could experience being surprised!
